Title: A Team Is Borne
Author: [livejournal.com profile] danvers
Rating: PG
Length: Medium
Brief summary: This piece is a little left of center in a lot of ways, but what shines through are a great Lorne and a great Cadman. If you grant the author the premise, there's a lot of fun and interesting characterization to be found.

Title: What Happens In The Clubhouse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] skoosiepants
Rating: PG-13
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Kids. Sheppard, McKay, et al. are kids. Adorable, bratty, sniffly kids. The characterization is great and the evolution of the story avoids cliche. It's more fun than you should be allowed to have.

Title: Clarification
Author: [livejournal.com profile] eretria
Rating: PG
Length: Medium
Brief summary: It seems as though Elizabeth is often more of a prop than a character at times. Eretria marries those two worlds brilliantly in this piece, with a feisty Elizabeth who takes matters into her own hands where Sheppard and Caldwell are concerned. I didn't think I'd buy this version of Elizabeth, but I think it's surprisingly easy to do. This is the Elizabeth I'd like to see.

Title: Either.Or
Author: [livejournal.com profile] isilya
Rating: NC-17
Length: Medium
Brief summary: At their best, OCs show us something about the relationship among canon characters we didn't already know. This piece is a great illustration of that, as the female third of the threesome brings the Sheppard/McKay dynamic to a sexual light. There's an interesting power reversal and some great characterization packaged as hot porn. Who's not going to buy?

Title: The Secret Life of Scientists
Author: [livejournal.com profile] julad
Rating: R
Length: Long
Brief summary: Julad's given us some excellent S1 setting in fic, coupled with a gorgeous conceit of Zelenka gifting McKay with time. It's sweet but still hollow with the regretful reality of living in Atlantis, and it stands out very well against the background cast and scenery she's created.

Title: A Supermarket in California
Author: [livejournal.com profile] taffetablue
Rating: R
Length: Long
Brief summary: The secret to a good AU is that it shows you something about the characters you didn't already know. This fic takes the lackadaisical side of John and pushes it to the forefront, creating a John who's at peace, and it's beautiful. Both Rodney and John are very well drawn and they're different, better, easier than we see on the show. It's a great twist on the characters we love.

Title: Scrambled
Author: [livejournal.com profile] packmentality
Rating: PG-13
Length: Medium
Brief summary: One of the beauties of SGA as a fandom is the writers' ability to take day characters and turn them into something special. The author has done just that with Stackhouse and Markham, telling a love story in quantum mechanics.

Title: Email Tag
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pentapus
Rating: PG
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Another way SGA writers get creative is with structure and format. The author does a surprisingly good job of telling a story in a series of emails, wherein things go snafu and John goes missing. If you grant the author the premise and take any errors as intentional, this is a really fun read.

Title: Fifteen Hours
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ltlj
Rating: PG
Length: Medium
Brief summary: It's a road trip fic, if by "road trip" you really mean "traveling through space in a puddlejumper," complete with silly games and threats to turn the car around and the inevitable, "Are we there yet?" It's a great moment in time piece that shows us another side of life on Atlantis when a multitude of crises aren't imminent. The author subtly adds some very poignant moments, making this a weighty read disguised as humor.

Title: Rodney and Cadman Go Down
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kormantic
Rating: NC-17
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Well, it's precisely what the title says: a fun bit of McKay/Cadman Duet aftermath (with a dash of McKay/Sheppard) that's weird enough to be worthy of Rodney. There's capture and torture, if by "torture" you mean "four star hotel accommodations" and then the cavalry shows up, only the rescuees are naked and not really in need of rescuing at this precise moment, thank you very much. And I love this Cadman, brave and silly and so very much alive. This is just the kind of post-Duet fic you've been wanting to read.

Hi, everyone. I'll be your reccer for SGA general series this round. I'm sure some McKay/Sheppard will sneak in (it is the pairing that ate fandom whole, after all), but I'll do my best to give you a wide variety of choices. Here we go!

Title: The Care and Feeding of a CO
Author: [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine
Rating: PG-13
Length: Long
Brief summary: With the vast majority of the show's focus on Sheppard's gate team, writers have a lot of room to maneuver when it comes to writing other teams. [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine has taken advantage of that to the fullest, writing a cast of original characters for Lorne's team that feel like they could have walked out of an episode and on to the page. The military is likely a very distinct culture on Atlantis, and she explores that culture beautifully.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] tigs

Brief summary: The author calls this crack!fic and though it seems rather silly on the surface, it's a very tender exploration of both Rodney's responsibility and solitude--narrated by a bed.

Title: "Thy Rodney and Thy Staff They Comfort Me"
Author: Sage, at [livejournal.com profile] sage_theory and Paper Hearted.
Characters: Ford, Teyla, Sheppard, Rodney, Beckett
Prompt: 21 - Epiphany
Rating: PG (gen)
Length: Long (~3000 words)
Spoilers: Hide and Seek, Suspicion
Brief summary:
There is not much fic around which features Ford, let alone fic written from his point of view. This is a beautifully written, subtle gen fic which (despite the title) is Ford centric, but which also gives us a glimpse of the other members of the team. All of it is wonderfully in character, yet offers a slightly different perspective on them all. It also examines the reality of the situation they are in, settling into a new galaxy or a new planet and trying to get used to each other. As if that wasn't enough, it offers an explanation as to what a Hail Mary actually is, leading to an epiphany for Ford and also an elegant exploration of the metaphor.
