rec50Hi, everyone. I'll be your reccer for SGA general series this round. I'm sure some McKay/Sheppard will sneak in (it is the pairing that ate fandom whole, after all), but I'll do my best to give you a wide variety of choices. Here we go!

Brief summary: With the vast majority of the show's focus on Sheppard's gate team, writers have a lot of room to maneuver when it comes to writing other teams.miss_porcupine has taken advantage of that to the fullest, writing a cast of original characters for Lorne's team that feel like they could have walked out of an episode and on to the page. The military is likely a very distinct culture on Atlantis, and she explores that culture beautifully.
Excerpt: Sheppard said nothing for a moment, obviously thinking it over. When he snapped his fingers twice, Lorne looked over.
"Who's gateroom officer?" he mouthed.
"Maguire," Lorne mouthed back.
Sheppard nodded, then mouthed "Who's ready-room?"
"Ericksson," he replied silently. Solid young guy, shy but well-liked. Maguire was the man they'd want for this, though. Ericksson hadn't been in Atlantis long enough to be able to withstand an afternoon with uncomfortable and inconvenienced engineers.
"Maguire," Sheppard went on, "Get Ericksson to take over for you in the gateroom and get your platoon ready for a very wet afternoon. You're on the job."
"Yes, sir," Maguire replied. Maguire was a favorite of the senior officers because he didn't ask how he was supposed to muster the rest of his platoon, get them into appropriate gear, get down to a remote position, build a makeshift levee, dry out and illuminate a large room, and then retrieve the scientists in an hour. Maguire instead was already dividing up the labor in his head.

Title: A Bedtime Story

Brief summary: The author calls this crack!fic and though it seems rather silly on the surface, it's a very tender exploration of both Rodney's responsibility and solitude--narrated by a bed.
Excerpt: He would go from sleep to waking in less time than it took to blink, and he would make a grab for his notebook and he would begin writing. Those times, she tried to be a little bit more firm, so that he would have a nice solid surface to write on. Sometimes he would not go back to sleep at all. He would uncap the pen with his teeth and spit it out onto her pillow.
Occasionally, he would fall asleep again in mid-sentence and the ink from his uncapped pen would seep into her sheets.
She felt well loved.
