Claim: Starsky & Hutch (TV) – general
Prompt: #43 denial
Title: Unbearable Loss
Author: Wuemsel
Rating: R
Length: long
Brief summary: I like this story because the whole situation and the characters’ behavior are extraordinarily well written and psychologically justified. Starsky's mother dies in a tragic accident and Starsky tries to deal with it the only way he can – denial. To make things worse, the accident happened in exactly the same circumstances as he remembers from his childhood when he lost his father. It’s all written from Hutch’s POV and he also doesn’t have it easy in this story. Warning for a lot of hugging :)

Title: "Night of the Living Wife"
Author: Toad (LJ?)
Rating: unrated
Length: short
Brief summary: This was another story written for one of PhansOnline.net's Morbidity Contests, and I thought it was the best of that round. I don't like schmoopy Erik--and Erik "date-raping" Christine seemed perfectly in-character for me, especially considering his off-kilter ideas of male-female relationships and his control issues. Needless to say, given the plot, this fic caused a large amount of controversy on that board.
I thought the difference between this and the usual "Erik gets laid" fic is that Erik having sex with Christine is *not* presented as a good thing. He is taking away her self-control for his own nefarious purposes--and that is *wrong*. It's twisted and sick of Erik and no different, morally, than if he had physically restrained her. Only Erik's sense of morality is so screwed up that he can't see what's wrong in this, as long as Christine *appears* to be enjoying it.

Brief summary: This is bittersweet and wistful, and painful because it's so true to the characters (I disagree with the inevitability of it, but not with its possibility). Rating: PG-13
Length: 1, 491 words
Brief summary: For a piece so brief, this packs a wallop. Told from an original, intriguing point-of-view, it makes its points about Elizabeth's character subtly and obliquely, and reveals the narrator in the process. It's an ambiguous piece, written with an incredible facility with language, and it's as much about the gaps in the story, the space between legend and truth, as it is about the relationships past and present in the story.
