Unbearable Loss
Jul. 4th, 2010 08:17 pmClaim: Starsky & Hutch (TV) – general
Prompt: #43 denial
Title: Unbearable Loss
Author: Wuemsel
Rating: R
Length: long
Brief summary: I like this story because the whole situation and the characters’ behavior are extraordinarily well written and psychologically justified. Starsky's mother dies in a tragic accident and Starsky tries to deal with it the only way he can – denial. To make things worse, the accident happened in exactly the same circumstances as he remembers from his childhood when he lost his father. It’s all written from Hutch’s POV and he also doesn’t have it easy in this story. Warning for a lot of hugging :)

Excerpt:
"No, you hear me out now! You wanna take on everything? You're sorry? Then you're gonna hear me out now! I love you, buddy, it's KILLING me to see you like this! It's KILLING me to watch you draw yourself away from me! What'd I do? Huh? What'd I DO to you so you don't think you need me anymore? Huh? WHAT?!"
"You... Wha... Nothin', Hutch, nothin', it's... oh God, no, it's not your fault, it's me, I... You know it's not true. I... I... Course I... need ya."
"Oh yeah?! Show me."
Starsky bowed his head.
"Show me," Hutch repeated, his voice stern. "Tell me. Now."
