Brief summary: Dark and powerful and heartbreaking; a look at Desmond and his relationship with Kelvin, written prior to Live Together, Die Alone. Both character are sharp and real; Desmond's desperation and anger comes through loud and clear, as does Kelvin's isolation-induced insanity.
Kelvin's eyes were downcast. "And not just for what I said to you just now. I'm sorry you had to come here."
"Had to come here?" Desmond whirled to face him fully, eyebrows hunched, eyes intense.
"It's my fault. I needed a partner, and I got you. I must have wanted it too bad."
"It's your fault?"
"I wanted it too bad."
Desmond took two quick steps towards him. "You made me crash?"
"I didn't mean to." Kelvin did not look at him. "I didn't know that when I wished it, it would happen."
Desmond drew back slowly, eyes widening, heartbeat picking up. "You're insane," he breathed.
"Sometimes." Kelvin glanced up at him and flashed him a bright smile before receding back into himself.

Brief summary: Post-Live Together, Die Alone genfic focusing on Charlie after the incident with the hatch. This is a terrifyingly dark and all too real look at one of the possibilities of the end of that storyline; don't read if you're prone to nightmares, okay?
He thinks of asking Eko and Locke to help him but they must have had an argument because they don’t talk to each other, won’t even look at each other. They just sit where he left them, staring into space - Eko at the table, Locke on the sofa, opposites sitting on opposite sides of the room. Charlie decides not to interfere, he doesn’t know what the problem is but he knows that they will sort things out if he lets them be. It’s not like they would listen to him anyway.
Charlie overhears Claire and Rose talking about Jack. He doesn’t mean to eavesdrop; he was just walking along the beach and heard Claire mention his name, so he stopped to listen in. They are wishing that Jack was here because Jack would know what to do to help him. Charlie doesn’t understand why they are saying that – he isn’t ill, the cut on his arm isn’t very deep and apart from the headaches he keeps getting he feels fine. But it would be nice if Jack were here because then perhaps he could find the person who screams in the night and help him sleep better and then maybe Charlie wouldn’t feel so tired all the time.
Charlie doesn’t go into the room where the computer was. When he was in there a day ago he heard a voice, weak, far away sounding, calling out Locke’s name. Charlie couldn’t see anyone in the room, couldn’t find a person to go with the voice and he remembered Sayid telling him about the voices in the jungle, how they called out to him, so he decided not to listen to the voice in the control room. There’s no need to go in there now anyway, the alarm is silent and the button doesn’t need to be pushed so Charlie avoids it when he comes to talk to Eko. It’s better that way.
Charlie asks Eko when are they going to finish building the church. Eko doesn’t answer, just slumps in his seat a little. He’s tired, Charlie thinks, too tired to finish the task they started together. Charlie thinks it would be nice if he finished building the church on his own, it would make Eko happy and show Locke that he has changed, that he is a better person now. He doesn’t tell Eko what he is going to do, he’ll make it a surprise, maybe then Eko will start talking to him again.
