Author: JennyWren (LJ?)

Brief summary: OK, I'll admit it: I'm a Raoul/Christine shipper. There. You have me. Although, given that this is my 50th rec, completing my table, you've probably figured that out by now.
So, when it comes to this story, you will have to excuse me as I melt into a little pile of Gwyn-goo.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] christinedaae
Rating: T

Brief summary: For the most part, these recs have been a diet of angst, death, depression, and despair. After all that, I had to include some humor. Just so I couldn't be held responsible if you decided to throw yourself off a roof in the near future.
Considering that Erik has more Mary Sues thrown at him than any character not played by Orlando Bloom, it is about time that Mary Sue got just. what. she. deserves.

Author: Kat097 (LJ?)

Title: "Night of the Living Wife"
Author: Toad (LJ?)
Rating: unrated
Length: short
Brief summary: This was another story written for one of PhansOnline.net's Morbidity Contests, and I thought it was the best of that round. I don't like schmoopy Erik--and Erik "date-raping" Christine seemed perfectly in-character for me, especially considering his off-kilter ideas of male-female relationships and his control issues. Needless to say, given the plot, this fic caused a large amount of controversy on that board.
I thought the difference between this and the usual "Erik gets laid" fic is that Erik having sex with Christine is *not* presented as a good thing. He is taking away her self-control for his own nefarious purposes--and that is *wrong*. It's twisted and sick of Erik and no different, morally, than if he had physically restrained her. Only Erik's sense of morality is so screwed up that he can't see what's wrong in this, as long as Christine *appears* to be enjoying it.

At first, I thought it was going to be a mere murder mystery. I honestly did not know for the first few chapters what Erik's role was in all this.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] athousandwinds
Rating: PG
Length: long
Brief summary: When the Phantom of the Opera disappears at the end of his story, there's only one *possible* explanation for where he went: He left on the TARDIS.
An older and wiser Cristine Daae no longer believes in angels--even those who fall from the sky in blue boxes; however, she still believes in asking for mercy for a friend. The Tenth Doctor believes he understands what it's like to lose someone you love; and he's used to so many alien races that Erik's looks don't bother him. In other words, Ten and Erik make perfect companions. But don't worry: Martha is still there to smack them before they start trying to out-emo each other.

It's just dawning on me that Raoul and Christine's children always have the same names in each of her stories, even though the fics can be read independently. Delayed reaction on my part! Still, it helps to create a wonderful tapestry across her writing. My only warning is if you read this story, you just might melt into a pile of goo!

Author: [livejournal.com profile] stefanie_bean

Brief summary: I love how this author takes a few almost throw-away lines in the novel and expands them into a completely believable story, which still fits entirely within the world. There's always a sensual quality to her writing and an attention to historic detail. Better than most historic fiction, she actually makes the reader "feel" like she's a part of the Nineteenth Century atmosphere. It's a hallmark of her POTO writings.
