You get to see how Daniel & Jack's friendship is strengthened and see some of the differences as well as the similarities to thier friendship & behaivor from before Daniel ascended. It's worth a read!

Brief summary: I was uneasy about choosing anyone else's story for this prompt, since there's such a negative connotation to it, so I chose my own. After a tough case for both of them, Jack goes to Samantha's apartment for sex. While it's certainly not a rapefic, there's the idea that Jack and Samantha don't really want sex -- but it's a substitute for the more emotional relationship they can't have. It's intentionally painful and messy -- so it kind of gets the spirit of the prompt, if not the actual prompt itself.

Samantha breaks down after the Annie Miller case, and seeks solace in Jack. I wrote it when I was still in that giddy-in-love-with-the-show stage, so it's more emotional than well-characterized -- but I do still like it after all these years. Especially the end, of which I'm still proud. :)
