Title: Desolation
Author: Losseniaiel
Rating: PG-13
Length: epic
Brief summary: A very chilling AU where the Ring falls into Sauron's hands and Frodo has failed in his quest. As Middle-Earth falls into darkness and despair, the only one who may be able to save them is Elrond. This fic is truly a magnificent story, in many ways it captures Tolkien's tragic-heroic quality that made LoTR so powerful. Losseniaiel has a wonderful gift of creating images and scenes that absolutely take your breath away.

Title: The Birth
Author: Jai Marie
Rating: PG-13
Length: medium
Brief summary: I had a hard time picking a cliche, so I hope this works. For a while, it seemed that the Lotr fandom was bound and determined to have Legolas pregnant. There were mpreg Legolas stories everywhere; some were okay, most were truly awful. Then I stumbled across this little gem, which made me sit up and take notice for two reasons. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are completely in character and two, Jai Marie left me in no doubt that they are men, which seems to be really hard for most authors to do with a MPREG. As an additional bonus, her Gimli is intelligent, giving Aragorn some wisdom when he needs it the most. Give it a try, it's definitely worth it.

Title: Mistress Gilraen
Author: AfterEver [livejournal.com profile] ae_emlyn
Rating: PG-13
Length: medium
Brief summary: I think it's probably safe to say that few fans give Gilraen, Aragorn's mother, much thought; but AfterEver has brilliantly captured a recently widowed and confused young woman who's willing to do what's necessary to guarantee her son's safety in Imladris. Her characterization of Elrond is also probably one of the closest to canon I've seen; wise, understanding and as gentle as summer. AfterEver makes me fall in love with him all over again.

Title: Beyond This World
Author: Thundera Tiger
Rating: PG
Length: long
Brief summary: If you have no clue who Thundera is, you're in for a treat. She writes some of the best Tolkien gen on the net, so after you finish this fic, go read the rest as none of it disappoints. Well written death fic is so, so hard to find; but Thundera captures Gimli's passing in Valinor and his friendship with Legolas with grace that few authors could ever match. And this fic isn't only about death, but about true friendship and a choice that Legolas must make. As with all of her work, this fic could easily be a piece of canon. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Brief summary: I think Suz summarizes it best - Thranduil and Elrond had a definite difference of opinion at the close of The Last Alliance. Things haven't gotten any better with time. Author: Susie
Rating: PG
Length: long
Brief summary: Before Frodo could leave on his journey, Elrond had to answer the particular question: who would represent the Elves? Complete with Elvish logic, philosophy, and enlightening conversation. Think about it for a second, out of all the elves in Rivendell, why Legolas? Wouldn't it have been more logical to send someone like Glorfindel or one of Elrond's sons? Susie writes a rather intriguing story about why Elrond picked Legolas as the ninth walker.
