Title: The Killing Frosts
Author:
silversparCharacters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard, Elizabeth Weir, Sam Carter
Prompt: Confession
Rating: R
Length: long
Brief summary: A shivery tense AU based on the movie "Brigadoon".
silverspar takes a much darker slant on the premise of the movie, creating a dark and chillingly apocolyptic alternate earth from which John and Rodney find their way to Atlantis. Atlantis is a perfect stand-in for the mythical Brigadoon, a peaceful village, a place of respite out of time and space. Structurally, the story is wonderfully complex, beginning with the conceit of a story told in a bar to a stranger, but then breaking out of that mould at the end, breaking out of Rodney's self-flagellating narrative to reveal a more complex, and ultimately hopeful truth underneath.

Title: Old Familiar Sting
Author:
ladycat777Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard
Prompt: Dark
Rating: R
Length: medium
Brief summary: This is darkfic at it's best, taking the familiar characters and turning their own worst characteristics against them to chilling effect. This hurts to read, but it hurts because the aching, awful potential is there, hovering around the edges of canon. It hurts because no one's happy, John and Rodney have both lost control of their situation, letting it spin out into something painful and impossible.
ladycat777 gets inside the mind of the victim, but also the victimizer, making the reader ache for both of them, and for the hopeless, tangled mess they've made of their lives.
