Brief summary: The events of Revenge of the Sith are briefly tweaked as Palpatine promises Anakin his master's life, if he complies and comes over to the dark side. The flashbacks that the author includes throughout the story are beautifully done and explain why Anakin would give up everything for Obi-Wan, and vice versa.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] monimala
Characters: James Norrington/Anamaria
Prompt: 41. Guilt
Rating: PG-13
Length: 510 words
Brief summary: This is a lovely piece, with serious historical allusions and some really good character notes. This is a pairing with so little support in canon (were these two ever on the screen at the same time?), and some really interesting things done in fanon, and this is a fab addition to the list.

Title: The Play's the Thing
Author: Sirocco

Prompt: 40. Confession
Rating: PG-13
Length: 10, 260 words
Brief summary: I have a major weakness for an educated Jack, and stories in which Jack tells stories. This piece pushes both those buttons hard. Will is written well, too, and the way the story unfolds, with both of them discovering new things about each other, makes me want to eavesdrop. (Note: the page is white text on black.)

My very first rec! BTW, my table is here

Claim: Harry Potter, Harry/Draco
Title: "Confession Is Good For the Soul"
Author: [livejournal.com profile] annafugazzi
Characters: Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy
Prompt: 40. Confession
Rating: PG-13
Length: Long
Brief summary: Firstly, I just want to point out that despite Harry and Draco being Healers, this is NOT a crack fic. Clear? Good. Let's move on. In this fic, Harry falls victim to a strange curse and Draco attempts to cure him with an even more unique remedy (oh and get your mind out of the gutter, it is not sex therapy.)

These days I have this craving for fics where our boys are no longer hormonal teenagers, but perhaps 20/25 year olds- and hopefully a bit mellow. I got exactly what I wanted since both characters in Confession Is Good For the Soul, are older and more grounded.

Also, it is the rare, gifted author who is able to not only use unusual plot devices and keep the characters 'real' but also tell a simply fantastic story. [livejournal.com profile] annafugazzi does just that with her most recent H/D fic. So I rec it with definite satisfaction.

Claim: Stargate: Atlantis, Rodney McKay
Title: The Killing Frosts
Author: [livejournal.com profile] silverspar
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard, Elizabeth Weir, Sam Carter
Prompt: Confession
Rating: R
Length: long
Brief summary:

A shivery tense AU based on the movie "Brigadoon". [livejournal.com profile] silverspar takes a much darker slant on the premise of the movie, creating a dark and chillingly apocolyptic alternate earth from which John and Rodney find their way to Atlantis. Atlantis is a perfect stand-in for the mythical Brigadoon, a peaceful village, a place of respite out of time and space. Structurally, the story is wonderfully complex, beginning with the conceit of a story told in a bar to a stranger, but then breaking out of that mould at the end, breaking out of Rodney's self-flagellating narrative to reveal a more complex, and ultimately hopeful truth underneath.

Claim: Stargate: Atlantis, Rodney McKay
Title: Old Familiar Sting
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard
Prompt: Dark
Rating: R
Length: medium
Brief summary:

This is darkfic at it's best, taking the familiar characters and turning their own worst characteristics against them to chilling effect. This hurts to read, but it hurts because the aching, awful potential is there, hovering around the edges of canon. It hurts because no one's happy, John and Rodney have both lost control of their situation, letting it spin out into something painful and impossible. [livejournal.com profile] ladycat777 gets inside the mind of the victim, but also the victimizer, making the reader ache for both of them, and for the hopeless, tangled mess they've made of their lives.
