This is a more gentle story than many I have recc'd; the threesome develops while they are isolated from Atlantis, in a post-Season One/pre-Season Two timeframe. And while bad things happen, both physically and emotionally, the bad things are external to the relationship that develops between John, Rodney, and Teyla. So while not paradise, there is a certain 'desert island' feel to it that I enjoyed.

The genius of this fic is, though we're not given much background on Farrell, the author humanizes him in a way that doesn't betray the character we have seen. In the process, we learn his views on the office politics, including Jack and Samantha's affair, are maybe more similar to the agents involved than we thought. Like them, he is simply doing his job.

Brief summary: A first-time story, that has them both so completely in character. Vince is nervous, unsure, pushing Stuart away. Stuart is insistent, not letting Vince stonewall them again. I loved this as a first-time, because I could absolutely see this happening, the dialogue, the honesty, the way Vince felt after, and the way that Stuart tried to show him it that more than just a shag that needed doing. The sex is hot too, and she writes them both with such a sure hand. I highly recommend this if you've never read any qaf-uk before, as it will give you a wonderful introduction to Stuart and Vince.

And the reason for the break-up is great -- and totally believable. I love Vince here, because he actually admits he is co-dependent, and doesn't give a toss. Like so many real relationships out there. :)

Brief summary: The most exceptional thing about this fic is the character development. From sworn enemies trying to kill each other, no holds barred, to I-don't-like-you-but-I-guess-I-can-tolerate-you, to friends, to... The author makes use of all of those 671 pages in Word to make sure each step is clearly built up to and believable. Even when they're fighting, the sheer knack each has for getting under the other's skin, the fire and passion they can draw out, is incredible. They make each other think, examine why they believe what they believe. The difference in Draco especially as he gets out from under his father's nose is spectacularly drawn. This is one of my favorite fics, full stop. Set aside an afternoon and immerse yourself in this beauty.

Brief summary: Even though on the show we've only ever seen Teyla, John and Ronon of the leads doing the stick-fighting, in fanfic everyone does it and there's a reason for that--it's a great arena for exploring a side of the characters we don't see much on-screen. In this one, Ronon offers to help train Elizabeth, in hopes of figuring out a little bit of what makes her tick underneath the surface. (Hence why I picked it for this prompt.) A fantastic, very much in character little snippet with a little Sheppard/Weir UST, a little Ronon/Teyla, and (I think despite the author's intentions) a little Ronon/Weir--incidentally the first fic I've ever read with the third that worked for me. *grin*
