Characters: Chris, Joey
Prompt: 18. Light
Rating: Mature / Nc-17
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Joey is not ready to deal with Hurricane Andrew and calls Chris to bunk with him. The play between their friendship and the beginning of something else, as well as the play between light and darkness created by the hurricane, are just two of the things that make this a beautiful piece not to be missed.
After dinner and a couple of beers, the lights flickered a couple of times and then went out. There was a loud noise as the generator kicked on, but it didn't light all the rooms. Joey looked at Chris questioningly. "It's only connected to the appliances. I don't want to waste gas on the television, no matter how tempting it is. We can entertain ourselves, can't we?"
Joey knew that Chris didn't like the dark so he got up to find the flashlights or some candles so they could finish eating. "Top drawer, on your left. Candles below that," Chris directed.
In the drawer, just like Chris said, there was a huge Mag-light flashlight that Joey handed to Chris and Joey had to snicker. "This thing is almost as big as you," he teased.
Chris looked up, a grin already on his face. "Are you hitting on me, Fatone? Because complimenting the size of my equipment is definitely the way to go."

Title: Fare thee Well
Author: Rachel (at Last Night)
Characters: Chris, Joey, unnamed OC.
Prompt: 14. Loss
Rating: G.
Length: Short.
Brief summary: When Chris's ex dies, Joey is there to take care of him. This is a bitter sweet short piece, told in the OC POV, It is basically a Chris's piece, but Joey's presence and the relationship between Chris and Joey feels quite real and not forced. The fact that it's on second person could be a drawback, but Rachel is one of those writers who manages to pull it off.
There is a brief pause in the room when Chris arrives. Hushed whispers that consist of 'the ex but not that ex' and 'Nsync' flutter across the room and Chris almost turns away. You bristle at the ripple of tension it cause and you wish that you could touch Chris' cheek and tell him it's all right. He's supposed to be here.
Your father makes the first move and you remember all the times before when your father hugged Chris and made him feel like family. They used to drink beer and watch football together. You would sit next to Chris and listen as they cheered on their teams.
Your father runs his fingers through Chris' hair, says something that you miss but think is along the lines of 'Pittsburgh sucks' and 'I love you'. Chris ducks his head and rests it on your father's shoulder, hugging him close.
