Claim: Backstreet Boys: general
Title: Material Boys
Author: Arsenic Jade, at every rose has a thorn and [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade
Characters: Backstreet Boys, Kristen
Prompt: 23 Time
Rating: PG-13
Length: medium
Brief summary: It starts with a purple shirt on Howie's twentieth birthday and ends with an eight-by-eight feet quilt six years later. In between are the Boys' journey to stardom and the evolution of a special relationship between two of them. A well-written, intelligent story with lovely characterisations of all the Boys.

AJ had threatened to open all of Howie's presents for him if the birthday boy didn’t get on top of it right that very moment. Howie had acceded to AJ's demands. There hadn't been anything particularly special, a few CDs that Howie had mentioned wanting, a set of pots and pans from Angie, who was tired of having to ask the people next door for cookware every time she wanted to make something for her brother and his roommates and an easy-travel sewing kit from Brian, who was the only one of the guys whose masculinity wasn't threatened by Howie's somewhat odd choice of hobbies.

Kevin's gift had ended up being last by random luck; Howie had started at the top of the pile, working his way down. The gift had been in a department store box, unwrapped. Kevin had commented, "Hey, I took the time to tape it shut."

Howie had opened his Swiss Army pocket knife and cut each piece of tape. "My appreciation of your effort will last me a lifetime, I'm sure." Howie had tossed the top of the box aside and gasped.

Title: Inside Out
Author: Jain, at A Wild Surmise and [livejournal.com profile] jain
Characters: Kevin, Nick
Prompt: 43 Denial
Rating: -
Length: short/medium
Brief summary: Kevin is adamant that he's not having a mid-life crisis, but Nick can't help wondering... This is a sweet and funny story that leaves you with the feeling of having come home.

"So, where were you when all this happened?" Nick asked, voice pitched low enough to be ignorable if Kevin were really asleep.

"Shouldn't you be writing?"

"I just finished. We can leave in a second. I was only wondering if it were the same club I got arrested at. In which case, this might be karmic retribution for all of those lectures you gave me after that."

"I wasn't at a club at all," Kevin said, finally opening his eyes.

"Where were you?"

"tghnfjdi," he mumbled.

"What?"

"T.G.I. Friday's," he repeated, more clearly.

"Seriously?" Nick asked, giggling. "Oh, man. That's perfect! All Brian told me was that you were in jail for being drunk and disorderly. I didn't know you were disturbing the peace at a family restaurant."
