Big Damn Table of River recs, 2/50

Claim: Firefly, River Tam
Title: Opposites
Author: Mnemosyne/[livejournal.com profile] literarylemming
Characters: River, Jayne
Prompt: Sex
Rating: NC-17
Length: Short
Brief summary: Mnemosyne bills this as PWP, but it's so much more than that. The sex is hot, but what gets me is her River-voice. It's spot on, and her observations of her and Jayne are perfectly IC. Her writing style is amazing; she's descriptive where she needs to be, but never overly wordy. One of my favorite Firefly stories of all time.

Title: Pinned
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lindentree
Characters: River, Jayne
Prompt: Anger
Rating: R
Length: Short
Brief summary: This story cuts right to the heart. The writing is tight and moves the story along, and even though it's just under 700 words, the story feels complete. It's visceral in every sense of the word, and even people who don't 'ship River/Jayne should check this out.

Claim: Supernatural
Title: Weak Point
Author: Maygra
Characters: Sam and Shapeshifter!Dean
Prompt: 25 Kink
Rating: R (M) (Unrated by Author)
Length: Medium
Brief summary: When I read this fic, I had an instance of “Thank-you God, I’ve been waiting for someone to pull this off for so long”. While I dislike Wincest, I’ve got no issues with Sam/Shapeshifter!Dean ‘cause kinda kinky. Anyways, all the other Sam/Shapeshifter!Dean stuff I’ve read had undertones of Wincest. Weak Point is a pure gen story.

Title: Clouds In The Romantic Sky
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aspensnow
Characters: Michael Scofield, Sara Tancredi
Prompt: 39. Break Up
Rating:PG13
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Sara sees Michael with his wife Nika. Michael reacts. An atypical, interesting piece, written by somebody who is neither in the shipper nor in the slasher corner. Besides, I worship anything [livejournal.com profile] aspensnow writes anyway.

Title: A Prayer To Saint Michael The Archangel
Author: [livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon
Characters: Lincoln Burrows, Michael Scofield, Reverend Mailor
Prompt: 40. Confession
Rating: G
Length: Medium
Brief summary: I have always been a sucker for the religious imagery of Prison Break and this one works perfectly. Last thoughts before the execution, a childhood story or two, all in all, a great introspective piece.

Title: Four
Author: [livejournal.com profile] aspensnow
Characters: Lincoln Burrows, Veronica Donovan, Michael Scofield, LJ Burrows
Prompt: 45. Trapped
Rating: PG13
Length: Short
Brief summary: Three people come to visit Lincoln in jail. Aspensnow’s writing style is fascinating to me, almost ethereal, poetic, with a unique flow. Here she creates a fantastic claustrophobic and helpless mood in a story about people trying to connect.

Title: A Beautiful History
Author: [livejournal.com profile] almostforgiven
Characters: John Abruzzi, Theodore Bagwell, various
Prompt: 23. Time
Rating: R
Length: Long
Brief summary: T-Bag recounts the bloody history of the shed as he is trying to weasel his way out of John Abruzzi’s shank. I love this story because it fits seamlessly into canon and reminds of all the things that are very much part of prison reality even if we do not see everything of it in canon.

Title: kahla_w’s T-Bag/Maytag universe
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kahla_w
Characters: T-Bag/Maytag
Prompt: 13. Established Relationship
Rating: PG – NC17
Length: Epic
Brief summary: I often joke that that it says a lot about my fandom that the most in tune and realized canon couple we have, is between a predatory serial killer and his willing cellmate. The character of Maytag might not have stuck around for more than a single episode, but it was enough to capture a lot of people’s imagination. Kahla works hard to cover every aspect of their relationship, from the beginnings to the ends, meticulously dealing with the realities of prison life from food, to visitors, to trips to the infirmary, to gang rivalries.

Big Damn Table of River recs, 4/50

Claim: Firefly, River Tam
Title: Rain Dances
Author: Molly/[livejournal.com profile] mollita
Characters: River/Mal, crew
Prompt: AU
Rating: PG
Length: Medium [~7000 words]
Brief summary: [livejournal.com profile] mollita's Rain Dances starts out a brilliantly written and complety believeable AU. River is on the run from an abusive boyfriend, and she and Simon end up at Malcom Reynold's ranch in Montana. Serenity is a horse, Badger is a rodeo promoter, and Mal and River have to heal each other's wounds: hers from a man who wanted to use her and change her, his from the war-like rodeo circuit. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but oh it does, it does. The only issue I have with this story is the villification of Jayne, but it's a minor quibble in an otherwise amazing story.

Title: A Million Lightyears from Home
Author: Victoria P./[livejournal.com profile] musesfool
Characters: River, crew, Sirus Black from HP
Prompt: Crossover
Rating: PG
Length: Medium [~6000 words]
Brief summary: Major spoilers for "Order of the Phoenix" and Serenity, so if you haven't read the book and seen the movie, skip this story or ths summary. At the end of OotP, Sirius falls through the veil; but instead of dying, he ended up on Persephone 500 years later, and ensconces himself on Serenity. The story is very well written, and seeing the world of Firefly through the eyes of a magic-user deserves a read all on its own. Victoria's Sirius makes some very astute observations of a crew wracked with loss, and the interactions between the crew members are perfectly IC.
