Brief summary: Mikami/Light and a mild AU. Light meets Mikami shortly before finding the Death Note and the fic spans from their meeting through the beginning of Light's involvement in the Kira investigation. It's gorgeous, introspective, somewhat dark and an absolute delight to read.

He uncovers it unexpectedly when they are walking in the park one afternoon, a hazy, dusky sunlight pouring through the leaves, weather so late-Autumn pleasant that Light stretches his arms over his head, his untucked shirt riding up. Mikami can’t quite help the quick glance he makes at the seam of exposed skin, thinking that it must taste like caramel; because that’s precisely what anything that particular colour should taste like. Mikami does not even like sweet things, not remotely, but for Light he thinks he can make an exception.

He was left behind, you know- the only one left, and though his mind was a martyr (it's long since gone, but the brilliance is still there, and he can still solve so he's L but he's N and they're all the same now, aren't they?) his body's still there and so he stays, talks to a Mello who isn't there as he gnaws on a chocolate bar and talks to L- he is L, it doesn't matter- and he doesn't sleep, because he can't stand the thought of it now.
