rec50Since I'm the first person to rec RENT, strong, fandom,I will give a brief introduction:
RENT is a successful Broadway rock opera that was adapted to film last year. It follows a group of starving artists through a year in the East Village. The main characters are Roger Davis, a HIV+, songwriter who has "just come back from half a year of withdrawal," Mimi Marquez, a HIV+ stripper who falls in love with Roger and is "born to be bad," Tom Collins, an HIV+ anarchist who is a computer genius, Angel Schunard, the HIV+ drumming drag queen who captures Collins' heart and is truly the group's Angel, Maureen Johnson, the drama queen who used to date Mark before leaving him for Joanne Jefferson, a lesbian lawyer whose parents are politicians, and Benjamin Coffin III, the group's ex-roommate who "sold-out" by marrying Allison Grey, becoming the landlord of the building where Mark, Roger, and Mimi live. Then there's Mark Cohen, the "everyman," a cynical filmmaker who narrates the musical, the group's survivor. If you haven't had the chance to see the show on Broadway, listen to the cast recording, or watch the movie version, I recommend checking them out.
