The team goes to an alien planet, McKay cuts his hand and gets turned into a dinosaur. Oops... The story is short and funny, but not without sweet sentimental moments.

In the rainforests of P4X-707, Rodney was scanning a long-abandoned Ancient outpost and John was eyeing Rodney's ass whien Rodney tripped over a tree root. He cut his palm on a rock. "Oh great," he said, cradling his hand close to his chest as John headed over to check it out. "That's going to need stitches--"

And then he turned into a dinosaur.

John froze. Rodney looked down at himself, as much as he could considering his short, spindly neck, and then he looked down at John.

"I guess it had to happen eventually," John said, after a long, silent moment, and Rodney roared.

Brief summary: The story was written as a part of reel_sga challenge, and is based on the movie The Searchers. It's an AU, where young Rodney and his non-related uncle John spend years looking for Rodney's sister Teyla, who was kidnapped by the Genii. Sheppard hates the Genii, and as McKay is part Genii and also young and inexperienced, there are some clashes of personalities and ideologies. As always with trinityofone, the story is written beautifully, as you get a feeling of the time and the place and the reality in which the characters live.

From behind him came the sound of laughter. “Started sending boys to do men’s jobs, have you, Captain?”

Rodney’s back stiffened. How long had Uncle John been standing there? He looked to Aunt Elizabeth, but her face didn’t carry any answers. Just another queer look, one that made Uncle Nick’s eyes narrow and Eldon rock his chair and chuckle.

“Very impressive,” Uncle John continued, his eyes on Caldwell. He poured himself a cup of coffee.

“Well, if it isn’t the prodigal brother,” said Caldwell, dryly. “When’d you get back?”

After a moment, Rodney realized that Uncle John wasn’t even going to bother answering. Instead he sipped his coffee and smiled a smile that almost made Eldon look sane.

Caldwell continued, seemingly unfazed. “Haven’t seen you since the surrender,” he said, casual, conversational. “Come to think of it, I didn’t see you at the surrender.”

“I don’t believe in surrenders,” Uncle John said. He finished off the coffee in one big gulp and set the cup aside, the metal ringing loudly against the wood.
