It's a ridiculous premise, but it leads to the most inevitable and unconventional relationship I'd read up to that point. It's romantic and sweet and funny and sexy, but more, it feels true. I almost wish this is how the show had gone, although if it had, I'm sure there would have been much less porn. And also less with the bisexuality and polyamory. So I guess this is better for all concerned.

He'd given it up the first time someone had come for him, but this kid, this stupid suburban kid with his jokes and sweatshirts and powerful friends, all of whom were gone… And look where it had got him. What had happened to him before Spike bought him wasn't worth thinking about. Why he slept like that, why he held his hands like that when he was nervous. Why he did everything you told him to, and wouldn't eat an apple without permission.

He wasn't the one you would have picked, looking at that group. Dark horse.

"Sorry 'bout that," Spike muttered, and watched the frown work across the sleeping brow. "Looks like my team won after all."

But they didn't make Champagne anymore, so what kind of victory was that?
