My big Choey Table

Claim: *N Sync: Chris/Joey
Title: The Wake of War
Author: Lucy Hale
Characters: Chris, Joey, Lance, JC, Justin
Prompt: 16. Teamwork
Rating: Pg-13
Length: Longish
Brief summary: Historical AU, set right after the end of the Civil War. Lance is the last of his family, living in a ruined Jackson, Justin is a southern soldier who finds shelter in the remains of the Bass house. JC and Joey are Yankees who end up with them because they had to leave New York since Joey was friends with Booth and thus was suspect when Lincon was killed. Chris is a mulatto, who is looking to escape from Pearlman’s plantation. The situation is bad for the five, but somehow despite some very realistically portrayed prejudice and historical obstacles, they become friends, and together build something really beautiful. Besides the Choey, there’s a threesome of Lance/Justin/JC, but it doesn’t feel forced. Lucy Hale is a great AU writer, and The Wake of War is one of her best. Even if at moments you’ll want to kill Lance.

"Chris, please. Take the bed."
"No. I'm sorry, sir…Joe. I must refuse. It's not proper."
Joe flashed a grin suddenly. "You're going to learn that I don't often do things that are proper."
Chris actually returned the smile, but it was small and scared. "Don't make me, sir. I beg you."
Joe's smile dropped, and he had to work again to keep his fury at Perlman buried. "Alright. If you despise the idea so much." He went to the bed and pulled off the top coverlet. It was warm in the house those days, and he didn't have to fear getting too cold. "At least take this. I have nothing else to offer you, and the floor is too hard without it."
Chris hesitated, but reached out and took the cover. "Thank you, sir," he said quietly.
"Joe," Joe replied instantly.
Chris looked up, right at him. He met Joe's eyes across the small space, and that tiny, disbelieving smile floated over his face. "Joe."
They went to sleep. It took Joe a while to get dreary. He felt too warm despite the absence of his coverlet, and couldn't stop a smile from stretching over his face.
When he did fall asleep, he dreamt of brown eyes and a small, shy smile.

Title: Obvious
Author: Alexandria Brown
Characters: Chris, Joey, Lance, JC, Justin
Prompt: 10. Fandom Cliché
Rating: G
Length: Short.
Brief summary: Doing the rec thing I discovered popslash has a lot of clichés. Picking one for this was kind of hard. From the turn into girls!Cliche, to the Lanceisreallyreallygay!Cliche, to the Jcnevermakesanysense!Cliche, there are at least ten good stories for each. Finally, I choose the ‘theguysaskalltheothersaboutsomethingbeforedoingit!Cliche’. Which is a bit long for a cliché name. Joey is in love with Chris, Chris is completely clueless. So Joey asks JC about it. Then Lance. Then Justin gives him his opinion. Which is even the pattern of the cliché. But Alexandria makes it work, and she’s really got a good handle of their different voices, which is why I choose this, ultra-clichéd plot (It even has a bit of gay!Lance for good measure), but very good and sweet story. Because when the execution is good, the plot can be a little shaky. And this execution? Is really good.
Lance was even less helpful.
"Look, Joey." Lance glanced up from his trigonometry textbook. "You're acting like it's some huge secret that you want to fuck him through the wall."
"Shut up," Joey hissed, glancing over his shoulder. "Shit, Lance, your mother is in the next room."
Lance sighed as he closed the book. "My mother is about two seconds from locking you in a closet with him." Lance raised his hand. "And yes, the irony is not lost on her."
