Author: Dasha
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard, Carson Beckett, et al.
Prompt: 09. Hurt/Comfort.
Rating: PG.
Length: long.
Brief summary: As usual Rodney performs heroically in the field under enormous pressure; and then falls apart later, in the peace of the aftermath. Along the way he figures a few things out and has a couple of things pointed out to himbecause he needs that sometimes.

Title: Advantage
Author: Resonant, aka
resonant8
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard.
Prompt: 10. Fandom Cliche.
Rating: NC-17.
Length: long.
Brief summary: Ha! Aliens-made-them-do-it isn't the only cliche in this fandom! It's slavery this time around, but Resonant is one of the best at taking a cliche, turning it on its ear, and making it completely fresh again. For my money this is one of the best and truest Rodney characterizations I've ever read. One of the story's greatest insights into him is explained succinctly in the author's notes, so if you usually skip those, make a point of checking them out this time.

"You're breathing. When you can't breathe, you'll know it. You. Whatsyourname. Get out another injector. We may need it. John, you need to try to calm down."
"Keep talking," John wheezed, his eyes on Rodney's face.
"Like what should I say? Is this a good time for chewing you out for another damn bug? And what is it with you and bugs anyway? Are you trying to give everyone a complex?"
"S'right. Live to ruin. Your day."
"You know, this is actually worse than the first time, which, I don't have to remind you was a horrible experience on so many levels--"
John tried to laugh and began choking. "No, no," Rodney murmured. "You've got to stop laughing. I can't believe how really bad you are at this. I mean, I know it's your first time and all, but you're doing it all wrong."

"Suppose I ordered you to go away," Rodney said four hours later, when Sheppard had taken the dirty dishes back to the mess and fetched a dropped whiteboard marker and eaten way more than his share of khama nuts and made Rodney look really bad in front of Zelenka by pointing out that he'd factored in water pressure on the subaqueous shields twice in different places.
"I'd do it, but I wouldn't be able to relax until I could hear you." They'd arrived at Rodney's room, which was definitely out of earshot of Sheppard's. Sheppard was yawning.
"OK, fine, go get a mattress or a cot or something and you can sleep on the floor. But just this once," Rodney said. "Oh, and hey, see if you can find me a blanket made out of something found in nature. I think this one is spun out of milk bottles."
