Claim: Stargate: Atlantis, Rodney McKay
Title: Oblivious
Author: Shalott, aka
astolat
Characters: Rodney McKay, John Sheppard
Prompt: 01. First Time.
Rating: NC-17.
Length: medium
Brief summary: Meet Rodney McKay as force of nature. This is a story of epic and hilarious miscommunication, in which Rodney makes a reasonable, calculated logical inference that just happens to be wildly off the mark and then proceeds to run with it for all he's worth. By the time John figures out what's going on and then tries to backtrack and explain, the situation changes three times, events snowball, and Rodney ends up being right after all.

slodwick changes out Ford for Rodney: Rodney is the one who the wraith attacked at the end of The Siege (Part II) and he's the one who fell into the water and became addicted to the enzyme. Things unfold almost exactly as they do in canon, but as Rodney would have reacted to them and as Rodney would have done.

The door made a pinging noise and opened when he looked up; John was standing there, hair still damp and curling over his neck, with a bottle of vodka in one hand. "I thought maybe you couldn't sleep either," he said.
Rodney figured he didn't need a translator to know what that meant, and after he spent thirty seconds blinking with his mouth open, he said, "Come in."
Obviously it was an incredibly bad idea; Rodney told himself he was just going to let John down gently. But he was still badly deprived of sleep, caffeine, and all rational judgment, so it only took about a quarter of the bottle to change his mind. Then it took another quarter of the bottle to make him get impatient. "Okay, what are you waiting for, yes already," Rodney said.
John blinked at him groggily and said, "Huh?" and Rodney rolled his eyes and leaned over to kiss him.

An increasingly aggravated Rodney stood in the back of the control room as they listened to Colonel Caldwell and Major Sheppard summarize their so-called battle with the Wraith. The destruction of two hive ships was good, but damn it, not good enough, and now the Daedelus was damaged and out of the equation. He shifted his weight back and forth impatiently, considering and promptly rejecting a flurry of plans in his head.
"We'll keep the porch light on for you." Elizabeth sighed as the transmission was ended to the Daedelus, and turned to the group. "Okay, what are our options?"
"Oh, let's see," Rodney began, cutting off Radek before he could do more than open his mouth, and following Elizabeth towards her office. "At this point, dying seems to be the only viable option left. It's down to a choice between drowning in the abyss, or being eaten alive, and I've been there, it's not pleasant, so I'd go with door number one, if I were you."
