Title: The Pirate Crossover Fic of Doom
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon
Characters: Jack Sparrow
Prompt: 15. Crack!fic
Rating: PG
Length: 1, 856 words
Brief summary: This short little piece of fun involves characters from 900 BCE, seventeenth-century "real" pirates, nineteenth-century fictional buccaneers, twentieth-century movie inventions, as well as our beloved canon. But what makes this more than just a cracktastic crossover fic of doom is the sense of fun throughout, the love the author clearly has for the characters, and the serious way she treats the subject. She's aware of the nonsensical absurdity of her premise, but that doesn't stop her from respecting the characters and letting them lead the story.

Title: Pirates of the Caribbean: The African Star
Author: [livejournal.com profile] erinrua
Characters: Jack Sparrow, Will Turner/Elizabeth Swann
Prompt: 16. Teamwork
Rating: G
Length: Novel-length
Brief summary: This? Is a fandom classic. I wish to god that Disney had just filmed this, because the action here is fast-paced and interesting, the dialogue sharp, and the characterization subtle. Jack and Will and Elizabeth and, well, everyone, are completely true to the character we fell in love with, and totally believable, and the changes they undergo are completely organic.

Title: Mastery
Author: [livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair
Characters: Lucas Brown, Will Turner, Weatherby Swann, Elizabeth Swann
Prompt: 11. Character Study
Rating: PG
Length: 9, 406 words
Brief summary: It might seem strange to have a 'character study' rec for a character who, in canon, has one line. But this story creates a plausible backstory for Mr. Brown, Will Turner's master in Port Royal, and in the process, gives us Will's story as well, while never losing its focus on Lucas Brown. The period flavor is remarkable, and by the end, you care about Mr. Brown in a way canon never even bothered to try.

Title: United We Stand
Author: [livejournal.com profile] adina_atl
Characters: Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann/Will Turner, Anamaria
Prompt: 12. Humor
Rating: PG
Length: 520 words
Brief summary: This story is a cumulative one. The premise is inherently amusing, but it's the sharp dialogue and characterization that make it linger.

Title: A Wolf at the Door
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lila82
Characters: Will Turner/Elizabeth Swann, Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann
Prompt: 17. Jealousy
Rating: PG
Length: 1, 971 words
Brief summary: This is bittersweet and wistful, and painful because it's so true to the characters (I disagree with the inevitability of it, but not with its possibility). The imagery is gorgeous and the second-person narration, which is so hard to pull off, works extremely well. Spoilers for Dead Man's Chest

Title: The Confession of Sins
Author: [livejournal.com profile] erinya
Characters: Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann, implied Elizabeth Swann/OC, Will/Elizabeth
Prompt: 43. Denial
Rating: PG-13
Length: 1, 491 words
Brief summary: For a piece so brief, this packs a wallop. Told from an original, intriguing point-of-view, it makes its points about Elizabeth's character subtly and obliquely, and reveals the narrator in the process. It's an ambiguous piece, written with an incredible facility with language, and it's as much about the gaps in the story, the space between legend and truth, as it is about the relationships past and present in the story.

Title: I Did But See Her Passing By
Author: [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria
Characters: Jack Sparrow, James Norrington
Prompt: 19. Dark
Rating: G
Length: 5, 283 words
Brief summary: Gloria's summary is simple a ghost story for All Hallow's Eve. And what could be darker than that? This is subtle and haunting -- as it should be -- and the story opens slowly, revealing itself only when you start looking. The frame is masterfully-handled, and the way Jack Sparrow's character is handled is well done.

Title: Mirror Image
Author: [livejournal.com profile] geek_mama_2
Characters: Elizabeth Swann/Will Turner
Prompt: 20. Fight
Rating: PG
Length: 1, 149 words
Brief summary: In the writer's commentary for Pirates of the Caribbean, it emerged that Will Turner is the best swordsman in the film. Who better, then, to teach Elizabeth how to fight? Because there's pirate in her, and she wants it. The characterization development, through the swordplay here, is very well-done; and it's all left a tiny bit ambiguous at the end.
