Here's the FAQ previously in the userinfo. Please read it before you attempt to post any recs. Also, if you have any additional questions/concerns, you can voice them here.

ETA: For an example rec, go here. Please be aware that the excerpts she quoted from each story are under an LJ CUT. Excerpts are optional. You can also see how she linked the recs to her table. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chickpea for her contribution.

FAQ

1. When does the two months start?
For this preliminary round, you'll make claims from now until October 31st, and you can begin reccing on the 25th. So two months would be the last week of December. Waitlisted people will be alerted during that time to prepare for the next round.

2. If I pick a character to rec, does every story have to be from his or her POV?
Nope. It could be that character seen from another person's eyes. It could be another person thinking about that character. It could be a story where your character is one half of a romantic relationship, even if he or she isn't the narrator.

3. If I pick a general fandom, can I rec a story with a pairing someone else is reccing as well?
Of course. When you're reccing a whole fandom, you can rec any pairing or character-centric piece you choose. This means there may be some duplicate recs, but that's alright.

4. Can I rec a story that's been recced previously?
If it happens, it happens. Especially if one or more people rec the same story during a single round, we understand. It means the story's good, right? However, the recs will be archived in the memories, sorted by fandom. So make an effort to check for any fics you plan to post to avoid duplication as much as possible.

5. Can I rec a WiP?
Just once, and it has to be clearly labeled in the header (NOT the titleline of your post, the heading that you've copy and pasted from above) next to the name of the fic.

6. Can I post all 10 (20, 30, etc.) of my recs in one entry?
No. Keep it to two recs per entry for the sake of archiving. If you choose, you can post multiple entries one after the other, as long as there's only two fics per entry.

7. Can I rec myself?
Sure, go for it. Keep in mind, though, that the amount of times you can rec yourself coincides with the "reccer's choice" policy outlined above. Namely, for every 10 recs, you can rec yourself once and so on.

8. Can I rec more than one fandom/pairing/character at one time?
You'll get a maximum of two. Just keep in mind that you have to have separate posts for each fandom, again for archiving. (ie-if you claim Wash from Firefly and Wolverine/Rogue from X-Men, you can't have a post containing both Wash and W/R fics.)

9. Can I rec crossovers other than the one for the official crossover prompt?
Most RP crossovers are allowed, since it's possible for them to meet at some point (unless it's like...Jesus and Michael Rosenbaum. Both are considered worthy of worship by many, but that's where the connection ends). Crossovers between co-existing universes are also acceptable (so Buffy and Angel, and most people consider Sports Night and The West Wing to co-exist as well). Other crossovers are ok, but not encouraged. Use the same rule of tens with this as you would for self-pimpage and "reccer's choice" prompts. So for every ten recs you make, one can be a crossover (excluding the official crossover prompt, which doesn't count against you).

10. When I make my table or my final list of links to show in the winners' circle, should I link directly to the story I've chosen for each prompt?
No. This a big one. Your table SHOULD NOT be a list of links to stories. It should be a list of the recommendations that you've posted on this site. You didn't write the stories (at least not all of them), you wrote the recs. THAT'S what we're giving you credit for doing, so THAT'S what we want to see.

11. I don't understand the prompt "fandom cliche." What does that mean, exactly?
Well, all individual fandoms have their own special cliches. For instance, the Smallville fandom has college fics, while the Queer as Folk UK fandom has pre-series fics that take place when the main characters were teenagers. That kind of thing. And if you can't think of anything, any general fandom cliche will work. Canon couples mysteriously no longer together, thus making room for other pairings? Fandom cliche. Grown adults sitting around playing Truth or Dare? Fandom cliche. Someone's first attempt at anal sex being beautiful, earth-shattering and the best they've ever had? Fandom cliche! I'm sure you can think of more.

12. What do I do if the author asks that people link to his/her splash/disclaimer page instead of directly to a story?
We urge you to link to the story whenever possible. However, if that contradicts the author's wishes, then link to the splash/disclaimer page, but be explicit about it in when you're posting your rec. Also, supply any necessary navigational directions someone may need in order to find the story you're referring to.

Can you do an example, maybe just a 2 entry table of what the links and recs would look like?

I feel like a moron, but I have a rec that was for a fic exchange... so the author is completely unknown... would this work:

Title:Save My Dream
Author: UNKNOWN -- written for [livejournal.com profile] wrenskywalker at the [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange

*raising the stupid hand*

So, really only one AU? Other than the reccer's choices?

I'm going to assume that the "1 whatever for every 10 recs" rule can apply to AUs too, if that's okay. :)

I think I've looked everywhere but can't find what I'm looking for..Is there a "what is that" for each of the prompts? I see you have "fandom cliche" explained but some of the others, I'm not sure what you're looking for...

Thanks!!

I was wondering what the UST prompt means, I don't think I've ever seen that abreviation before. I was also wondering how something could be considered non-con when reccing a specific ship...would it be something like role reversal?

Series How?

From: [identity profile] foolartist.livejournal.com
Alright. I'm looking through some bookmarks and I've come across more than one series of stories. The first one "Conjugal Visit" is pretty much a short PWP. BUT if you don't read it you don't get the much much (like epic) story that's it's sequel. So I see one of two things Rec one and mention the other in the summery. OR Rec the two as one. Which would be preferred

Thanks,
Foolartist

Hi,

maybe you could help a non-native speaker understand, what she should do. ;-)

I don't know what type of story to rec on the prompt 'Make-up'.
What I understood so far is, it's nothing about lipstick and eyeshadow... *g*

You'd be really a great help, if you could tell me what's the meaning of make-up in this case.

Thanks
Atti

A question about the 2 recs per entry rule. If I'm doing one of those prompts which really scream of a pairing (like Established Relationship, or UST), but I've chosen a character-centric claim and want to be equal opportunity, do I have to break up the prompt into different posts?

I want to rec a series it's 8 chapters, but I want to rec it for the AU prompt. That's it nothing else. Should i just list a link for each part with the rec as the author doesn't have the chapters linked?

I'm probably slow, but is the choice to rec yourself count as a reccers choice only or if, for example, you have a written a fic that fits "fandom cliche" or "AU" perfectly and you would like that to be use it may you if its the only self rec in your set of 10? Sorry for the confusion!

Question:

I'm in a lot of tiny little fandoms, (some of them less than 50 fics on ff.net etc) but they've got the common theme of being Young Adult/Kids Lit. Would I be able to have a multifandom table, with all the fandoms being obscure kidlit? If I can't I'll go over to [livejournal.com profile] 50lists, or just do it off my own back, but I thought I'd ask the question.

I'm going to be rec'ing NCIS for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van for June, but I happened to see this and thought it looked interesting as well. Is it possible for me to overlap and rec for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van and this community as well? Obviously I'd be rec'ing more stories in addition to the double posted ones. If not, that's fine (I'm not even sure I'll have time to do it anyway), but I thought I'd check.

Hi, I am an Italian reader and I think that your idea is wonderful!
I wanted to know if I can translate your table, to review fanfiction in Italian. I obviously indicate your community as creator of the initiative, with related links and credits.
