Moonlight Shadow, Iron Pokers into True-Love Knots

Claim: From Eroica With Love, Klaus/Eroica
Title: Moonlight Shadow
Author: Joram
Characters: Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach /Eroica (or Dorian Red Gloria, Earl of Gloria), ensemble
Prompt: 14. Loss
Rating: NC-17
Length: long
Brief summary: This story starts off with Klaus dead and Dorian living without Klaus in his life to torment and worship. Then comes the twist. This is a darker look into Klaus's mind, as some horrible things about his past are revealed to Eroica and the readers. It's good, and so satisfying, with a great ending.

"NATO has a mission for you," Uberall said finally.

Dorian froze for a second and then got up. "Nice to have met you, colonel. I’ll see myself out."

"Eroica, wait!" Uberall’s voice halted Dorian with his hand on the door handle.

"I’m not interested. I don’t work for NATO anymore," he said tightly. "And my name is Lord Gloria," he added.

"Please, hear me out. I think this is something you will want to be involved in, Lord Gloria." Uberall wondered at the Englishman’s insistence on his title. Eberbach had always referred to the thief by his sobriquet and his agents did the same.

Brief summary: Told from Klaus's point of view, this story starts with the moment that Klaus realizes he loves Eroica to the point that he learns to trust Eroica (when the thief gets himself beaten bloody in order to retrieve Klaus's microfilm). After that, it charts their relationship from the first night together, until years later. I especially love the way that Eroica slowly makes the Major's house more liveable, and how Klaus grudgingly submits to it. This is one of my favorite fanfic stories ever, and I have read a lot of fanfics from a lot of different fandoms. Even if you don't know much about From Eroica With Love, read the excerpt at least, before you dismiss this story and this writer.

"I said shut up!" Klaus was having trouble controlling his thoughts — they kept going over the same few moments over and over: Dorian reeling at Morozoff’s blows, Dorian falling at his feet, the feel of the microfilm in his palm, Dorian’s simple joy melting into equally simple hurt. There was something very dangerous about this line of thought.

"Major," Dorian began, but Klaus stopped him, staring straight ahead.

"I can't get angry at you right now," he said curtly, his voice as hard as he could make it. What he was feeling was shockingly close to fear. "Don't make me."

Perplexed, Dorian studied him for a moment… and then his face lit up, his lovely blue eyes widening, and the chasm opened at Klaus’s feet. "Major, you—"

Klaus did the only thing he knew to do: yelled at the thief. Not that it had ever been an effective tactic in the past. "I’m telling you not to do that!"
