"Tulsa" and "The Girl in the Green Coat"

BIG DAMN TABLE

Claim: X-Men Movieverse, Rogue
Title: Tulsa
Author: Ransom, at Eye Teeth and [livejournal.com profile] lilmissrrhood.
Characters: Wolverine, Rogue
Prompt: 08. Friendship
Rating: PG-13
Length: medium to longish
Brief summary: What I love the most about this incarnation of Rogue is her quiet certainty of Logan's affections, and her willingness to let him take the necessary time and space to figure it out. There's something intimate about Logan calling her to talk on the phone from half a continent away, that makes me believe this couple has a basis in friendship before romance.

He wondered sometimes if she knew why he called, and when. He wondered if she would be offended if she knew, or hurt. Probably a little of both. But that didn't stop him. He couldn't stop, really. When his body was sated and quiet, his heart ached for the same. And that only came from Marie. No one else.

He'd made it sound like it was a safety issue when he insisted that she let him pay for a cell phone. And it was. Kind of. It was also a matter of convenience. Both his, and everyone who lived at the mansion. A direct line meant less hassle for them all.

As soon as Marie figured out that she could expect phone calls from Logan at strange times, she started keeping the phone close. Last time he'd been back to Westchester, he'd seen the charging stand on the table next to her bed. It had given him a weird feeling, knowing that it was there so that she could take his late-night phone calls.

Claim: X-Men Movieverse, Rogue
Title: The Girl in the Green Coat
Author: [livejournal.com profile] orange_crushed.
Characters: Wolverine, Rogue
Prompt: 10. Fandom Cliche
Rating: PG, for language
Length: shortish
Brief summary: I don't know if this is a cliche so much as it is an oft-done fanon intepretation of canon events that happened in X-Men (the movie). It goes through the events at Laughlin City, where Wolverine and Rogue first meet. This story is excellent because of the bits of backstory the author gives to Rogue and Wolverine, switching between their voices flawlessly. It's a fabulous introduction to these two characters, and pretty effectively explains why I love this pairing -- the subtext and danger, baby.

He counts his money in the back room, before he’s even bothered to clean the other guy’s blood off of his knuckles. They bet more against him when he’s winning; like that’s going to psych him out, the stupid back-country fucks.

"Not a lot of talent like yourself around." The guy who runs the cage hasn’t taken his eyes off of that pile of money since it started to grow, but now he unglues his eyes long enough to look Logan in the face. There’s disbelief there, and sly, dirty greed. "Where’d you learn to fight like that ?" Logan waits a beat, like he’s really thinking about it, and shoves the cash into a back pocket.

"Church," he says.

I swear that I'll have some fics that are not Wolverine/Rogue soon, no really. In... [checks notes] just three more recs! (Yeah, so I wrote out all my recs before I started posting. I'm thorough, you know?)
