Brief summary: College fic is the ultimate fandom cliche in Smallville fandom, particularly for Clark/Lex, and this story just gets the whole feeling of starting college exactly right, from buying books to living in dorms.
Clark would have been perfectly happy living with Lex in his east Metropolis penthouse, but his parents insisted he live in the dorms and for some inexplicable reason Lex had agreed with them. Clark still doesn't understand their reasoning. With him living in the dorms he's being exposed to all those things they wanted him to stay away from, but apparently by parental logic it's better he have to deal with drunken college students and 3 A.M. fire drills than risk living with his boyfriend. As for Lex, he moved back to Metropolis for Clark -- publicly citing business reasons of course -- but it's more than clear he doesn't want to actually live with Clark.

Velvetglove does a great job of showing Clark's melancholy - he still loves Lex, even after all of these years and even after what's happened. There's also a fantastic little OC in the form of Clark's little sister named Franny who loves Lex almost as much as Clark does.
They pulled out into traffic, Franny still talking and posturing. She had developed a habit of tossing her hair like a filly, and her nascent breasts seemed to alternately embarrass and delight her. She talked about soccer practice and piano and her 4-H rabbits, but then mentioned a boy she liked and a kiss they had shared on the playground, and Clark couldn’t help being shocked. His baby sister had been kissed! He let his foot off the clutch too soon and the car stalled in the crosswalk.
