My Big Damn Table.
Claim: Stargate Atlantis: Teyla
Title: "Aliens Made Them Do It with Teyla" series
Author: kharessa bloodrose(
kharessa)
Characters: Teyla, Sheppard, Mckay, Ford (in mention)
Prompt: 10 - Fandom Cliche
Rating: PG-13 to R/NC-17
Length: Medium for individual stories; long for the series overall
Brief summary: In SGA, "Aliens made them do it" (AMTDI) stories are piled up as thickly as leaves in autumn; it's an incredibly popular cliche. However, this series strips away the more light-hearted aspects of the conceit and instead, it plays around with the darker side. So issues of power and coercion are bought up, and the set of 4 stories framed with non-con concerns. While I would not say that the Teyla, John or Rodney of these stories truly fit my own view of who the characters are, the experiment is and of itself very interesting. Because of where the author takes the characters, these stories are at least minimally uncomfortable, and the second story -- Saving Face which focuses on 'domestic discipline' -- I found particularly difficult to read.
There are 4 unconnected stories in this series, and I have only linked to the first. The rest of them are linked in at the end of each story. There is also an essay on what the author hoped to do with this exploration of power issues, that is available here.
The priestess had been understanding. Of course the visitors had not known that they had violated the sanctity of the deity’s sacred garden, and of course, the door should have been locked. She’d been apologetic, but that hadn’t changed the immutability of the religious laws. Sanctity had to be restored, and that could only be done by offering a sacrifice that the priestess had described as simple and pleasing.
Teyla didn’t see anything simple or pleasing about the situation. Standing naked in front of the deity’s altar, she resolutely focused upon the stone statue behind it rather than upon Major John Sheppard. He was likewise nude, but unlike her, his ankles had been firmly secured with fur lined, golden shackles. Some considerate person had provided a velvet pillow, and so his chest and face were not lying directly against the altar’s unyielding stone. His hands had been left free.
“Major Sheppard,” she said softly, moving toward his motionless form. The stone felt cold and gritty against her feet, contrasting with the warm air. She felt painfully aware of the artificial appendage that bobbed in front of her, and of the secure fit of the straps holding it in place.

PSA: No matter how old a story is, most authors like to hear that people are reading their work, so please think about leaving feedback when you're done. Thanks!
