A Pocketful of Ashes, Home

My rec table.

Claim: Stargate: Atlantis - John Sheppard
Title: A Pocketful of Ashes
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lyndac
Characters: John Sheppard.
Prompt: 26. Death.
Rating: PG.
Length: medium (1,550 words)
Brief summary: Five ways John Sheppard didn't die, and they're haunting and horrifying and beautiful—each one is less than inches away from reality, and John knows it.

It's like stepping through a Stargate and never arriving. His breath catches in his chest when she feeds and he knows he'll never breathe again.

When he sees Sumner in the distance, eyes darkened by horror, John blinks at him, eyes wet with involuntary tears, his body only upright because the Wraith is still feeding.

Do it, he asks Sumner. I'd do it for you.

Claim: Stargate: Atlantis - John Sheppard
Title: Home
Author: [livejournal.com profile] 20thcenturyvole
Characters: John Sheppard.
Prompt: 32. Secrets.
Rating: PG.
Length: short (620 words)
Brief summary: It's a tiny slip of a story, but this fic could teach some novels a lesson or two about detail, development, and the slow reveal. Of all the stories that examine John's relationship with Atlantis, I keep going back to this one.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t Zelenka’s stupid moonshine; when John got up the next morning, hungover and deeply regretting the cheese, it was still there, like a chunk of living foreign tissue planted in the base of his skull. That morning, and the morning after that, and the morning after that . . .
