Recall + Ties That Bind

My Table.

Claim: The OC, Seth/Ryan
Title: Recall
Author: [livejournal.com profile] slodwick
Characters: Seth/Ryan
Prompt: Love
Rating: G
Length: Short
Brief summary: This is such a beautiful fic in so few words!! It's Ryan's POV, looking at life before compared to life after moving in with the Cohens. I've always thought it would be interesting to get inside Ryan's head and just listen, and [livejournal.com profile] slodwick does exactly that. This sounds exactly like I would think Ryan's inner monologue would sound - it's very carefully worded and deliberate, and the setting is so simple and peaceful and perfect.

+ The harsh, flat sunshine that seemed to wash the color out of the world and still leave him cold was nothing like the powerful light seeping into his skin now, painting the backs of his eyelids in colors richer and more vibrant than any oil paint could ever capture, warming him head to toe.

+ He couldn't see him, but Ryan could imagine Seth gesturing, hands floating just above his stomach, as though even when relaxing, he needed an outlet for his energy. If he focused, he could even feel the movement in the sand to his right.

Title: Ties That Bind
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pinn2480
Characters: Seth/Ryan
Prompt: Friendship
Rating: G
Length: Medium
Brief summary: This is post-s2 finale, and it's Ryan and Seth, talking by the pool. This fic assumes that Trey actually died during hiatus, so it has a sort of darker undertone laced with uncertainty and, ultimately, relief. It's as if, in this fic, Ryan is finally able to accept the Cohens as his family, instead of keeping himself distanced just enough by his "real" family. He's very mellow and thoughtful, in a sort of in-shock kind of way, if that makes any sense. Also, [livejournal.com profile] pinn2480's Seth is very supportive and friendly, like the Seth everyone loves but Josh and Co. sometimes forget ever existed.

+ It's been like this every night since Trey died and Marissa got sent upstate to a nice, private hospital. Seth comes home from working the job his father forced him to get, hoping that Ryan's still at the house. Sometimes they play videogames, some nights Seth goes out with Summer and feels guilty the whole time. Most nights, though, they just sit and don't say anything.

+ Ryan nods quickly. "Yeah. I mean, I was kinda young but I remember running around with Trey, screaming and laughing. I remember staring up at the stars and trying to figure out what they were and how they worked. After my dad got sent to jail, my mom tried to take us camping once but it was a disaster."

"When we lived in Berkeley, my dad and I used to sleep out in the back yard," Seth says. "On a good night, we could see the house two doors down."

Ryan laughs quietly next to him and Seth feels some of the weight on his shoulders lift. It's been like this all summer, trying to find things that will make Ryan laugh a little, and get the frown on his face disappear. Some nights Seth is so tired from trying that he can't keep his eyes open.
