Title: Go Lightly Down
Author: [livejournal.com profile] torchthisnow
Characters: Seth/Ryan
Prompt: Discovery
Rating: unrated
Length: Medium
Brief summary: This story is filled with awesome lines and moments. It's a story from Kirsten's POV, where Seth and Ryan tell her and Sandy that they're together. Seth is very characteristically nervous and rambly, while Ryan is terrified of disappointing them. Kirsten and Sandy's reactions to the news is exactly how I'd think they would react, were Seth/Ryan canon. Sandy is just so *Sandy* in this fic, and Kirsten is so motherly and perfect - the characterization is *brilliant*.

+ “So, yeah,” Seth says, clearing his throat. “We’re sort of together. In the gayest possible sense of the word.”

“You’re together,” Sandy says slowly. His eyebrows raise, and with a start, Kirsten realizes that they’re holding hands, too. She’s holding onto his so tightly that her own fingers ache. “You’re…”

“We’re very, very gay, Dad.”

“Seth,” Ryan rebukes quietly.

“Sorry. But, yes, with the gay.”

+ “I don’t - I don’t believe this,” Sandy says, his voice thin and still stunned. “Why…and how…what could you be thinking?”

Seth’s face turns angry. “Pretty much that we enjoy sex with guys more than sex with girls, Dad. There’s been a lot of dude sex involved.”

+ Kirsten can’t help but smile. “The first night he stayed here, I worried about Ryan running off with the Waterford candlesticks, not our son.” She squeezes his knee. “I know we have to adjust, and I know it’s big, but we’re gonna be fine. We -- ”

Sandy lifts a finger to her lips. “You don’t have to say. I know. I just don’t want them to get hurt, or make a mistake.”

“Everybody told me I was making a mistake when I married you,” she reminds him.

Characters: Seth/Ryan
Prompt: Break-Up
Rating: R
Length: Medium
Brief summary: This fic broke my heart when I first read it, and even now when I re-read it. Pinn has an amazing ability to capture these moments and just make your heart *ache* for the boys, and this is no exception. The story is post-breakup, with flashbacks of pre-breakup woven in, and it's told through a series of phone calls between Ryan and Seth and even one between Ryan and Zach.

+ "I can't sleep in that house when you're not there, Ryan."

Ryan sat on the bed, his breath forced out of him. "Seth."

"Ryan." Seth sounded bittersweet and part of Ryan wanted to hug him but another part of him wanted to swing at Seth for sounding like Ryan had kicked his puppy.

+ "That's the problem with dating someone who's studying literature, they always make a break-up seem much more poetic than it really is."

"I knew this Ph.D. would come in handy some day. Ryan," Seth's voice cracks for the first time in a week, "is this really what eleven years comes down to?"

In the end - and through the entire story itself, really, but especially in the end - it's very quietly painful, and it almost feels like just the beginning to a much more painful time in both of their lives, and it's absolutely *amazing*.
