Brief summary: After Spaulding is released from prison, he starts killing little boys again. At the same time, Jack is weighted down from the guilt of his failing marriage. He finds himself leaning more and more on Samantha as the case progresses and worsens, and when they track Spaulding down to New Orleans, their feelings get the better of them. Not only is this story tightly plotted, it lets you inside the mind of the characters, and Spaulding himself. It's richer and more emotionally satisfying than the show's answer to Spaulding's return ("Copycat"). The author is a master of characterization and uses inner monologues so effectively, it adds a whole other layer to an already complex story. This is less of a fic and more of a novel -- and it's written so well, it should be in book form.
