Big Damn Table.

Claim: Stargate Atlantis: Teyla
Title: Paper Moon
Author: Pares([livejournal.com profile] kormantic)
Characters: Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Weir, Zelenka, Jilan, Dandin
Prompt: 27 - Original Character
Rating: Mature
Length: Medium
Brief summary: Jilan and Dandin are actors, well-known to Teyla, who has seen their stories before. She doesn't explain how detailed the experiences are that Jilan and Dandin present, and Rodney and John learn more about themselves and each other than they really wanted to know.

The description and dialogue are wonderful in this story, and it's really the language that draws me in to this story, as it all feels very character-driven.

"The Vefin are very well known for their skilled orations. They tell elaborate stories while wearing many styles of clothing. It is something like your movies, I believe. Although the experience is perhaps... more intense." Teyla's eyes were fairly twinkling, and John figured he could nod along to a couple hundred lines of iambic pentameter if it made her happy.

"Does that mean that they have popcorn?" It never hurt to ask, John figured.

Teyla's smile was enigmatic. "They do not. But they are also famed for a spiced liquor, in addition to their love of art and beauty. It is served at all their social gatherings." She patted the cushioned bench beside her, and John gave her a raffish grin. Drinkin' at the drive-in. Now that was entertainment.

Title: Falling Down
Author: lyndac ([livejournal.com profile] lyndac)
Characters: Teyla
Prompt: 28 - Dream
Rating: R
Length: Medium
Brief summary: This isn't precisely a dream, but I think it's close enough to qualify. We get to see bits of Teyla's life, from childhood to the present, and what her friendships mean to her. Lonely and spare in tone, with great imagery, it takes very few words to tell a full story.

Teyla runs. She looks over her shoulder, laughing, and keeps running, her friends trying to catch her. The sun is shining bright, breaking through the trees, nowhere as warm as their laughter.

More laughter bubbles from within her as she carries on running, her hair flying about her, unruly and with pieces of grass and leaves.

Then she has nowhere left to run, a lake stretching out in front of her. She turns and looks at her friends, muddy and dirty, running towards her with grins and laughter.

"There's nowhere left to go, Teyla!" one of them shouts on her approach.

Teyla turns and looks at the lake. Her mother will kill her when she arrives home, dirty and wet, but the sun is shining and there's so much laughter today that she feels fearless. She looks back at her friends, laughs and takes a running jump into the lake.
